Hello CMKE members!
It is that time again to elect officers for CMKE for 2008-2010. We are needing "new" faces for these positions. Our "old" officers have served our organization very well the past 8 years and now we are in need of "new blood"! I will serve as president the next two years since the vice-president position moves up to president after 2 years. But we are in need of a vice-president, secretary, treasurer, and 2 members-at-large.
Please consider the importance of our organization in supporting music teachers as they incorporate the methodology of Kodaly in their teaching. We have been instrumental in bringing Kodaly Levels classes to UCM and now graduate degrees in Kodaly methodology. We offer at least 2 workshops each year with noted Kodaly teachers and often help to sponsor Kodaly presenters at the MMEA conference. We hold an annual Childrens Choir Festival for members' students. CMKE also awards three scholarships to those attending levels classes in July at UCM.
In order to continue these services, we need active members willing to be leaders. If you are willing to "step up" and fill one of these positions, or if you have questions about the duties of a position, please contact me by email, phone or regular mail by April 30. I will truly appreciate your willingness to serve.
Sincerely,
Barbara Sanders
CMKE vice-president

REMINDER:
The Choral Festival is coming soon and with it the elections for new officers. Don't miss this opportunity to get involved and keep us growing and vital! We're all very busy and we all understand how tough it can be to take on that one-more-task. If you're willing to take your turn helping with the organization for a two-year term, please contact one of the officers, preferably Barb Sanders, or go through Contact Us here on the website.
Enjoy the spring! See you later this month!

SUSAN TEVIS WORKSHOP
CMKE is pairing up with SWACDA in February to sponsor a workshop with Susan Tevis durning the ACDA Southwest Conference. OAKE members
may attend the Saturday workshops
without being a member of ACDA.
Registration form is included in this
mailing or you may find one in the
winter copy of Missouri School

your local Kodaly chapter’s effort to offer quality workshops to our members. WE HAVE A WEBSITE!!!
Visit CMKE’s new website at cmke.net to keep up to date on our chapter’s activities.
OAKE NATIONAL CONFERENCE
MARCH 27-30, 2008
DENVER, COLORADO
Are you looking for a mini-vacation and fabulous Kodaly conference rolled into one? Then plan to attend the National Conference this year! The conference begins on Thursday evening, March 27 and concludes on Sunday, March 30, and even includes a Music in the Mountains Bus Tour on Sunday afternoon. CMKE has a scholarship available (the Liz Brown scholarship) to help one member by paying the registration fee of $250. The registration form with conference highlights is in your Kodaly Envoy, winter edition. Contact CMKE President Linda Burwick at lburwick@classicnet.net if you are interested in obtaining a scholarship form or if you have questions about attending the conference. Linda and vice-president, Barb Sanders, are planning to attend to represent CMKE at the national level.
JOIN US AT SUPPER!!!
CMKE is making arrangements to have supper together again at the MMEA conference this year. We will plan to eat at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday at a local restaurant. Judy Wingate is checking out a new place called City Grill or we may just return to our old favorite, Lil Rizzo’s. If you would like to join us (you don’t have to be an OAKE member), just ask Judy, Barb, or Linda what the arrangements are. We will probably talk to you on Thursday to invite you to join us. Hope to see you there!!!
Central Missouri Kodàly Educators
Minutes – General Meeting 9-22-2007
(at joint workshop)
The meeting was called to order at 1:00 p.m. by President Linda Burwick.
Minutes from the previous Executive Board meeting were read by Barb Sanders.
In attendance at the meeting were Donna Owens, Barb Sanders, Robin Currence, Jo Walters, Linda Burwick, Carla Maltas, and Cindy Calafaty.
It was mentioned that the bank still does not seem to have all of our account records current as they are sending notification for rollover of the CDs to multiple members. Treasurer Cindy Calafaty will call the bank to learn more about the CDs and whether or not we can transfer the signators on them as well as we did on the savings and checking accounts.
Donna reported on the ACDA Convention. We will help sponsor clinician Susan Tevis and OAKE members will receive a reduced rate for that Saturday of the convention. Three children’s choirs will give concerts that day. Members who present an active OAKE membership card may attend all workshops at the conference for $35 – Saturday only. We will try to obtain a flyer to mail out to CMKE members.
Donna made a motion to put an ad in the Missouri Music Educators magazine since we’re co-sponsors for Saturday, ad amount should not exceed $150, quarter-page minimum (to Dee Lewis). Jo Walters seconded. Voted and approved.
Make and Take – Carla suggested giving one in connection with a workshop on puppets. She also suggested a make-two-take-one on bulletin boards so younger members/newer teachers could have the opportunity to build their bulletin board stock from those no longer used by experienced teachers. Dates will be decided later.
Dr. Carla Maltas reported for UCM:
• Credit hours will be available again for the elective hours needed
• Monday will be a piano concert with the new department Steinways
• White boards are available for sale to raise funds to send some of her students to the OAKE national convention.
• Sean Smith’s mother recently passed away.
• The Master’s with Kodàly Emphasis degree is well on its way, hopefully a reality by fall 2008
On the web page – members requested the page contain announcements, calendars, financial reports/minutes, and a link to UCM & OAKE. Cindy will contact joandahlin@oake to try to make that connection. (Addendum: as of today, 1-12-08, the web page has been functioning for a few months and does have active links to both organizations as well as a calendar section and a means of contacting the web master. A means of idea sharing is still being researched and a means to attach it from the web page will be explored as well as the posting of minutes and reports.)
Children’s choir dates and information is not yet settled at this time.
MMEA – we will need to set up a slate for elections. Ballots may be mailed to members this year for voting. A short meeting could be held at Children’s Festival to count ballots. Ballots would be required to be received by that date either by mail or in person at the festival. Installation of new officers will take place in July.
Next general meeting will be at the Children’s Choir Festival.
A social meeting will be planned for Tan-Tar-A.
Donna moved to adjourn. Cindy seconded. Voted and approved. The meeting adjourned at 1:20.
Respectfully submitted,
Cindy Calafaty, Treasurer
